Sunday I went to the annual Delhi Book Fair with a couple coworkers to check out the Penguin booth. There were over 1,000 vendors/distributors at the fair. It looked like most of them were mostly trying to get rid of old inventory. The only book that stood out to me was a different vendor was selling a Florida Teachers Edition Literature book from Pearson. Now how did that get over here? It was published in the US. It was interesting to see my boss go from booth to booth look at the quality of the books. It was a learning experience for me as he was pointing out what he was looking at.
After the fair we went to a restaurant in Delhi for lunch. We had a couple non spicy chicken kebabs, chick peas and fried bread. They bring you the bread out fresh out of the fryer and it is big and round like the size of a volleyball. It was also very oily. As soon as you ripped a piece out of it deflated. It reminded me of Barb’s Fried Bread up on the Range, but without the sugar and cinnamon topping. I also had a caramel custard desert. It was cold, light, and very good.
It took about a half an hour to find a parking spot. First we parked in a hotel lot and they kicked us out. When walking to the restaurant I finally saw a wild monkey on top of one of the market shops. He was just watching the people walking by, probably looking for food.
Also while walking, it was 2 Indians and 2 Americans, Gary is back in town, one of the peddlers walked up to one of the co-workers and said if you take the Americans into the shops he gets 5% commission and he will split it with him 50/50. It was tempting but it did not happen. This happens quite often over here. Mark it up the prices for the foreigner, the so called white person tax and split the profits.
The Monday drive to work had someone riding a camel down the middle of the road. Otherwise it was a busy day at work.
Tuesday was another busy day at work. I think this will be my busiest week out here as there are a couple due dates this week..
